EndNote

A step by step guide on how to use EndNote

EndNote online and syncing with EndNote desktop

You can synchronise your references between up to three personal computers, an EndNote Web library and your iPad or iPhone through the EndNote Sync command. You need to be the owner and user of all three computers.

Users of EndNote Desktop can create an EndNote Online account and link the two. Content is then synchronised across both versions e.g. materials added via EndNote Online will appear in EndNote and vice versa. This maximises portability of your EndNote library. There is also the option of using EndNote Web with EndNote 21 but this lacks the functionality of EndNote Online so we recommend that you use that option.

Creating an EndNote Online account

  • In EndNote (desktop) go to Library>Sync
  • In the pop-up window enter the details of your existing account or click on Sign Up to create a new EndNote account

Syncing EndNote online with EndNote desktop

The syncing process is always initiated from EndNote Desktop. Click on Sync Configuration at the top of the left-hand panel.

To sync on a secondary computer, create a blank EndNote library by choosing File > New. Click on Library > Sync to input your EndNote Web account details and perform your initial sync to copy down all existing library information.
