RefWorks

A guide to using RefWorks reference management software to save references in a library and create citations and references in documents

Create bibliography

The Create Bibliography function allows you to generate a reference list in your chosen output style which can be pasted into your document.

When using this option you will need to add in-text citations manually.

Create Bibliography works best for author/date styles such as Harvard, or for generating short reference lists.

Note: If you are using a numerical style (e.g. Vancouver) you will need to re-order the references to match your in-text citations.

Use RefWorks Citation Manager to create both in-text citations and reference lists.

  • Select the references you want to include in the reference list. If you don't make a selection, all the references in the current view will be selected
  • In RefWorks select Create Bibliography - Create Bibliography
  • Select your style from the drop down menu
  • The reference list will be generated, formatted in your chosen style
  • Select Copy to clipboard and paste the references into your document
