BibTeX for LaTeX

This guide provides a brief overview of managing references in LaTeX using BibTeX. Follow the instructions to integrate BibTeX into your LaTeX documents, allowing you to cite sources and generate bibliographies.

Using RefWorks with LaTeX

  1. In RefWorks, navigate to the folder containing your references and select those that you want to export (tick the Select all  checkbox to include all in the folder)
  2. Click on Share button in the top menu
  3. From the drop-down list, select Export References option
  4. In the Export options window, choose BibTeX as the format and click Export to generate the BibTeX file

Save the generated file in the same folder as your LaTeX document.

If you are using Overleaf, click on the Upload button, then select the .bib file to add. You can rename it at any point, but ensure that the file is saved with extension .bib.

It is possible to add references from your existing BibTeX file into your RefWorks account.

  1. In Refworks, click on the Add icon (+) (above list of references)
  2. Select the Import References option and click on the Select a file from your computer button to upload your .bib file
  3. When the Import references pop-up window appears add the following: BibTeX as the file type and Bibdesk(BibTeX format) under database choice 
  4. Finally, under Import options, select the destination and attributes (optional)  and click Import button to proceed
  5. Records will be imported into the Last Imported Folder
